Washington, DC (December 8, 2003)—The Job Shadow Coalition is launching a new online “scavenger hunt” called HogQuest. From now until February 2, 2004, virtually anyone can search for “career-focused groundhogs” hidden throughout the Internet by answering a series of riddles at jobshadow.org. Once a participant solves a riddle and finds one of these groundhogs, they can register for a chance to win a gift certificate from Amazon.com.

“The goal of Job Shadow Day is to help teens learn about careers through worksite and virtual Job Shadow experiences,” said Stuart Shapiro, Executive Director, Job Shadow Coalition. “One of the best ways to reach teens is through the Internet. With this scavenger hunt, we intend to engage teens and introduce them to Job Shadow ing.”

Kicking off on February 2, 2004, more than one million young people will have a chance to explore their futures when they “shadow” workplace mentors as part of the seventh annual Groundhog Job Shadow Day initiative.

Job Shadow is a yearlong national effort to enrich the lives of students by acquainting them with the world of work through on-the-job experiences and a carefully crafted school curriculum that ties academics to the workplace. National Job Shadow is a coordinated effort of Junior Achievement, America’s Promise - The Alliance for Youth, and the U.S. Department of Labor. Monster and News Corporation are the major co-sponsors.

Last year, more than one million of America’s youth were able to experience more than 100,000 workplaces throughout the nation.
