Free Job Shadow Materials for Educators Now Available

Washington, DC— Educators can now access free Job Shadow materials from www.JobShadow.org as part of Job Shadow Day 2006. The materials, including helpful “How-To Guides,” are available through download.

Kicking off on February 2, 2006, Job Shadow Day is part of a yearlong national effort to enrich the lives of students by acquainting them with the world of work through on-the-job experiences and a carefully crafted school curriculum that ties academics to the workplace. Through Job Shadow ing, students are given the opportunity to go into places of work and shadow “career mentors,” volunteers who discuss their careers and the education and skills necessary to do them.

“We are pleased to be able to provide these materials to educators who want to help young people make the connection between success in the classroom and future career success,” said Mark Fiore, Executive Director of the Job Shadow Coalition. “These free materials are made possible through the generous support of our sponsors ING and Valpak.com.”

In its ninth year, national Job Shadow Day is a coordinated effort of America’s Promise - The Alliance for Youth, Junior Achievement, the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Labor. National partners include the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and the Magazine Publishers of America (MPA). ING is the national title sponsor of Job Shadow Day 2006. Valpak.com is a national co-sponsor. For additional information, including a How-to Guide and a brochure on how to coordinate Job Shadow ing, visit www.jobshadow.org.
