ING Donates $350,000 in Support of Job Shadow Day 2006

Washington, DC— ING, a global financial services company, has donated $350,000 in support of National Job Shadow Day 2006, a youth-focused career mentoring initiative that is estimated to reach hundreds of thousands of students a year. It is the second year in a row ING is serving as national title sponsor of the Job Shadow Day initiative administered by Junior Achievement.

Kicking off on February 2, 2006, Job Shadow Day is part of a yearlong national effort to enrich the lives of students by acquainting them with the world of work through on-the-job experiences and a carefully crafted school curriculum that ties academics to the workplace. Through Job Shadow ing, students are given the opportunity to go into places of work and shadow “career mentors,” volunteers who discuss their careers and the education and skills necessary to do them.

“ING’s ongoing commitment to Job Shadow reinforces the importance of this effort,” said Mark Fiore, Executive Director of the Job Shadow Coalition. “Job Shadowing would not be possible without the dedication and support of corporate partners throughout the country. ING’s unique role as national title sponsor of Job Shadow Day 2006 serves as a shining example of the kind of commitment that is possible when it comes to helping young people understand how to achieve their dreams.”

“As a company, we have an overall commitment to education and ensuring that young people are well equiped for the future. We are proud to support the JA Job Shadow program and believe it aligns with our goals in the community,” said Greta Ytterbo, acting president of the ING Foundation, and Head of Compliance for ING Americas.

In its ninth year, national Job Shadow Day is a coordinated effort of America’s Promise - The Alliance for Youth, Junior Achievement, the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Labor. National partners include the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and the Magazine Publishers of America (MPA). ING is the national title sponsor of Job Shadow Day 2006. Valpak.com is a national co-sponsor.
