ING Donates $350,000 in Support of National Job Shadow Day 2005
Effort Coordinated by Coalition that includes Junior Achievement and America’s Promise - The Alliance for Youth
Washington, DC— ING, a global financial services company, has donated $350,000 in support of National Job Shadow Day 2005, a youth-focused career mentoring initiative that is estimated to reach nearly one million students a year.
Kicking off on February 2, 2005, Job Shadow Day is part of a yearlong national effort to enrich the lives of students by acquainting them with the world of work through on-the-job experiences and a carefully crafted school curriculum that ties academics to the workplace. Through Job Shadow ing, students are given the opportunity to go into places of work and shadow “career mentors,” volunteers who discuss their careers and the education and skills necessary to do them.
“ING’s support of this national effort is invaluable,” said David S. Chernow, President and CEO of Junior Achievement; a Job Shadow Coalition Partner. “This effort relies on the involvement of thousands of dedicated and involved corporate partners across the country. ING’s unique role as national title sponsor of Job Shadow Day 2005 serves as a shining example of the kind of commitment that is possible when it comes to helping young people understand how to achieve their dreams.”
“ING is proud to be the national title sponsor of Job Shadow Day 2005,” said Rhonda Mims, President, ING Foundation. “As a corporate partner, we are committed to helping students participate in on-the-job experiences, preparing them for the workplace and helping them realize their dreams.”
In its eighth year, national Job Shadow Day is a coordinated effort of America’s Promise - The Alliance for Youth, Junior Achievement, the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Labor. ING is the national title sponsor of Job Shadow Day 2005. Nelnet and Valpak are co-sponsors.
Last year, more than one million of America’s youth were able to experience more than 100,000 workplaces throughout the nation.
