Job Shadow Coalition Launches Virtual Job Shadow Effort
Partnership with Career Corner TV Allows Students to Shadow “Career Mentors” Online
Washington, DC (December 2, 2003) – Thousands of teens from across the country will be able to explore various careers via the Internet as part of a new initiative. The Job Shadow Coalition, in partnership with Career Corner TV, is launching Virtual Job Shadow on the www.jobshadow.org site.
The new feature allows students and teachers to supplement their traditional Job Shadow activities by “virtually” exploring career opportunities right from their desktop computer. The product is a combination of fast-paced and informative “day in the life” career videos, interactive video questions and answers, and up-to-date text information and links that help students understand the career options available to them.
Job Shadow is a yearlong national effort to enrich the lives of students by acquainting them with the world of work through on-the-job experiences and a carefully crafted school curriculum that ties academics to the workplace. Kicking off on February 2, 2004, more than one million young people will have a chance to explore their futures when they shadow workplace mentors as part of the seventh annual Groundhog Job Shadow Day initiative.
“The goal of the Job Shadow Coalition is to encourage Job Shadow experiences in the workplace. Unfortunately, many young people do not have access to these types of experiences. Through Virtual Job Shadow ing, these students will be able to ‘virtually’ shadow a variety of workplace mentors – from nurses to business executives to a U.S. Senator,” said Stuart Shapiro, Executive Director, Job Shadow Coalition.
Added Peter Young, President, Career Corner TV, Corp.: “Virtual Job Shadow is a great resource for students and teachers to use before, and after, their traditional workplace visits. It allows students to further pursue career interests and make educated decisions about their future. We are very excited to have partnered with the National Job Shadow Coalition.”
