Event Kicks Off on February 2nd; Groundhog Day

Washington, DC—On Thursday, February 2nd, tens of thousands of employers will host student Job Shadow s as part of Job Shadow Day 2006, a nationwide effort to give young people an up-close look at the world of work by letting them shadow various “career mentors” in their places of work.

Examples of employer involvement include:

ING:
Financial services giant ING’s Job Shadow program is not just on February 2nd. The company has allowed its locations to choose any date during the month of February. The ING offices doing a shadow day are Atlanta, GA; Denver, CO; Des Moines, IA; Hartford, CT; Minneapolis, MN; New York, NY; Scottsdale, AZ; and West Chester, PA.

Cisco Systems:
Cisco Systems® is hosting a series of Groundhog Job Shadow Day events across the United States to help young people learn about career opportunities in the IT industry. More than 3,000 students will participate in events hosted on Cisco and Cisco® Networking Academy® campuses. These events will promote IT careers to support the growing need for IT professionals. Participating cities include Chicago, Atlanta, San Jose and Raleigh. This is Cisco’s fifth year participating in Groundhog Job Shadow Day. The company’s goal this year is to host students at more than 100 sites across the United States—both at Cisco offices and in colleges and high schools participating in the Networking Academy program.
