Job Shadow Day February 2, 2006!
John Walsh and America’s Most Wanted to Host Los Angeles-Area Junior Achievement Students for Job Shadow Day
Washington, DC—On Tuesday, January 17th, two Junior Achievement students from the Los Angeles-area will Job Shadow John Walsh in L.A. as he tapes that week’s episode of America’s Most Wanted. John Walsh is hosting the teenagers as part of his support of Job Shadow Day 2006, for which he also shot a Public Service Announcement (PSA).
Kicking off on February 2, 2006, Job Shadow Day is part of a yearlong national effort to enrich the lives of students by acquainting them with the world of work through on-the-job experiences and a carefully crafted school curriculum that ties academics to the workplace. Through Job Shadow ing, students are given the opportunity to go into places of work and shadow “career mentors,” volunteers who discuss their careers and the education and skills necessary to do them.
“We are extremely excited to have Mr. Walsh participate in this effort and give these young people a chance to see what a day of work is like at ‘America’s Most Wanted,’” said Mark Fiore, Executive Director of the Job Shadow Coalition. “Mr. Walsh is indicative of the tens of thousands of professionals who share their working experience with young people through Job Shadow Day. Whether a student shadows the host of a national television program, a graphic designer at a marketing firm or a firefighter preparing for duty, Job Shadow has a tremendous impact on young people.”
In its ninth year, national Job Shadow Day is a coordinated effort of America’s Promise—The Alliance for Youth, Junior Achievement, the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Labor. National partners include the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and the Magazine Publishers of America (MPA). ING is the national title sponsor of Job Shadow Day 2006. Valpak.com is a national co-sponsor.
