Employers Stepping Up For Job Shadow 2006!

Thousands of employers are coming on board for Job Shadow Day 2006. Here are just a couple examples of what is taking place on February 2nd and beyond!

ING:

Financial services giant ING’s Job Shadow program is not just on Feb. 2. The company has allowed its locations to choose any date during the month of February. The ING offices doing a shadow day are Atlanta, GA; Denver, CO; Des Moines, IA; Hartford, CT; Minneapolis, MN; New York, NY; Scottsdale, AZ; and West Chester, PA.

Cisco Systems:

Cisco Systems® is hosting a series of Groundhog Job Shadow Day events across the United States to help young people learn about career opportunities in the IT industry. More than 3,000 students will participate in events hosted on Cisco and Cisco® Networking Academy® campuses. These events will promote IT careers to support the growing need for IT professionals. Participating cities include Chicago, Atlanta, San Jose and Raleigh. This is Cisco’s fifth year participating in Groundhog Job Shadow Day. The company’s goal this year is to host students at more than 100 sites across the United States-both at Cisco offices and in colleges and high schools participating in the Networking Academy program. Job Shadow Activities Across the Country!

Plans are underway for Job Shadow Day in communities throughout the U.S. Here are just a few examples!

New York, NY:
WABC Channel 7 Weatherman Bill Evans will have a Junior Achievement student shadow him on February 2nd. Evans, along with the folks at ABC’s “Good Morning America” and “Live with Regis & Kelly” and CBS’ “The Early Show,” have agreed to participate in “Groundhog Job Shadow Day.” In all, 2,000 JA students will Job Shadow in New York City.
Atlanta, GA:
As part of JA Job Shadow Challenge Month, high school students throughout Metro-Atlanta can participate in a contest sponsored by Monster.com and 95.5 The Beat to shadow high-profile members of the Atlanta community. Students will submit their resumes on-line for a chance to spend the day shadowing celebrity hosts in the fields of media and entertainment, sports, government or business, with an expected 50-100 student winners. Opportunities include shadowing Governor Sonny Perdue, news anchors from CNN and CBS, radio dj’s. Five lucky students will appear on 95.5 The Beat, a popular hip hop station in Atlanta, during the week of February 6 with DJ Austin, to compete for a chance to host their OWN radio show the following Sunday evening!
Kansas City, MO:
Five Kansas City-area Best Buys will be hosting a total of seven Job Shadow s for Junior Achievement in the coming weeks. UPS has also agreed to have two Junior Achievement sponsored Job Shadow s. All of the KC-area Marriott Hotels will be hosting Job Shadow s for KC students this spring. For students interested in modeling, singing, or drama, they will attend Job Shadow s at Quality Hill Playhouse and Talent Unlimited. Finally, the Westin Crown Center has agreed to host a Job Shadow for area students this spring. At least 1,000 KC area youth are expected to Job Shadow in the coming months.
Fort Bragg, NC:
Fort Bragg will join communities across the State of North Carolina in participating in Groundhog Job Shadow Day. Students will get an up-close look at how the skills they learn in school are put into action in the workplace. They will shadow a workplace mentor as he or she goes through a normal day on the job. In November, several JAG Attorneys and staff allowed Job Shadow s from Douglas Byrd and Reid Ross Classical High Schools for the day. The students participated in activities for the day, such as pulling files and observations, assistant with magistrate information, etc.
