Job Shadow Activities Across the Country!
Plans are underway for Job Shadow Day in communities throughout the U.S. Here are just a few examples!
- Norfolk, NE:
- Northern Nebraska Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is again sponsoring Groundhog Job Shadow day on January 31 and February 16th. This year over 120 students from 11 rural communities will come together to shadow at 26 different locations in the community in a variety of healthcare careers. In addition to the shadowing, students will participate in a morning of hands-on health career activities and career information.
- Syracuse, NY:
- Students enrolled in the Science Technology Entry Program (STEP) and Liberty Partnership Program (LPP) at Henninger and Nottingham High Schools will be shadowing with the Onondaga County District Attorney’s office and visiting the local court system. Students from the STEP & LPP programs at Henninger High School will be shadowing with architects at Ashley McGraw Architects in Syracuse. They will learn about many local projects, such as the penguin exhibit at our local zoo, that this firm has designed and will explore the reading of blueprints and utilizing a CAD software system.
- Vieques, PR:
- On February 2, the Vieques Youth Leadership Initiative will participate in the 9th annual Groundhog Job Shadow Day. Specifically, 17-year-old Josue Cruz will “shadow” Vieques Mayor Damaso Serrano Lopez. Other youth will “shadow” and learn from executive women attending the Belizean Grove Annual Retreat in Vieques, Puerto Rico.

About Job Shadow Day
Job Shadow is a yearlong effort to enrich the lives of students by acquainting them with the world of work through on-the-job experiences and a carefully crafted school curriculum that ties academics to the workplace. The effort helps young people understand how what they learn in the classroom leads to success in the workplace.
