Job Shadow Activities in the Works!
Plans are underway for Job Shadow Day in communities throughout the U.S.. Here are just a few examples!
- Chicago, IL:
- Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences (CHSAS) is the only public high school in the City of Chicago dedicated to agricultural education and the great careers available in the food industry. With its state of the art facility, location on the last working farm in Chicago in the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood, and use of the FFA model, CHSAS has become the leading urban agricultural high school in the country and one of the most improved high schools in the City. CHSAS is unique in that the school has its own groundhog and we will host a ceremony at 9:30am on February 2nd to see if the groundhog sees its shadow. At 10am, the school hosts a kickoff ceremony with recognition for participants and sponsors. It is expected that the entire junior and senior classes will be sponsored for groundhog Job Shadow day. Renowned television host Bill Kurtis, an advocate of organic farming, will be the special guest of the day.
- New Mexico:
- On Groundhog Job Shadow Day, the Job Shadow program will be delivered in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Taos, Deming and Santa Fe. In Albuquerque, approximately 275 students will attend a “showcase event” at the Kimo Theater and then proceed to host sites while another estimated 125 students will take part in kick-off events at their respective host sites. In Deming and Taos, 175 students will be placed at several host sites in their respective communities. In Santa Fe, approximately 40 students will shadow legislators at the State Capitol during the legislative session.
